Candidate Statement

I wholeheartedly supported Propositions A and B in 2025. As Vice President of the Library Board at the time, and now as President, I was one of the architects of this vision. This project represents exactly the kind of innovative, multi-use development Ann Arbor needs. By expanding the Downtown Branch into the neighboring lot and integrating housing above it, we are maximizing the utility of public land to meet two critical community needs simultaneously.

This initiative is a testament to what we can achieve when we think creatively about density and public-private partnerships. It transforms a single-use footprint into a vibrant hub for literacy, community gathering, and much-needed residential space in our urban core. My leadership on the board was driven by the belief that our public institutions should lead by example in addressing the housing crisis. I am proud to have helped shepherd this proposal through, as it serves as a model for how the city can leverage its assets to build a more inclusive and sustainable future.
